Merit Badge University offering 33 Merit Badges!

Merit Badge University will be held at Flint Hill Technical College in Emporia on Saturday, September 16th from 8:30 to 4:00. This year Merit Badge University is offering 33 merit badges! Thank you to Troop 157 for organizing and helping to host this event with FHTC

It is $20 per Scout and $5 for anyone who wants lunch. Troops and individuals can pay by check or by card. If you pay by card, it is $2 per participant to cover credit card fees. (credit card not set up at this time). All participants will receive a patch.

Scout Leader Training Opportunities:

Classes will be offered for basic Scout leader training, including:

  • Youth Protection
  • Den Leader-specific
  • Cubmaster-specific
  • Pack Committee Challenge
  • Scoutmaster-specific
  • Troop Committee Challenge
  • Merit Badge Counselor

Classes are free and you can register online at the University of Scouting link on the right column.

Flint Hills Technical College Eagle Scout Scholarship Fund:

Proceeds from this event all go towards an endowment at Flint Hills Technical College. Each year 2 or 3 Eagle Scouts attending Flint Hills receive a scholarship towards their tuition and education. Please support this scholarship fund this year by purchasing the Merit Badge University t-shirt for $10.

Disc Golf Specialty Merit Badge: 

Merit Badge University is offering a Specialty Merit Badge specific to Flint Hills Technical College: Disc Golf! This unofficial badge is limited to 10 participants who will learn all about the fun sport that makes its home in Emporia, Ks. Emporia with its several courses hosts one of the largest disc golf tournaments in the world and Scouts will be able to learn and play on one of those courses that happens to be right next to FHTC.

New Merit Badges and Opportunities:

Merit Badge University is excited to announce new Merit Badges, including:

  • Fishing
  • Fly Fishing
  • Woodworking
  • Veterinary Science
  • Cycling
  • American Labor

In addition, there are opportunities to earn more than one merit badge in class at a time. The following merit badges will be be taught together all day:

  • Collections/Stamp Collecting/Coin Collecting
  • American Heritage/Scouting Heritage
  • Emergency Preparedness/First Aid
