Attention Scouts!
The Jayhawk Area Council regularly sponsors contingents to Philmont Scout Ranch. Philmont is a high adventure base located in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of northern New Mexico. It consists of 137,000 acres of mountainous terrain laced with hundreds of miles of trails. This is a backpacking adventure of a lifetime and an opportunity for fellowship with scouts from all over the world.
The contingents consist of two crews with up to 10 youth and 2 adult advisors in each. Participants must be 14 years old as of July 20, 2011. The crews may be coed if all participants are registered members of the Boy Scouts of America and coed advisors are available.
A new application and information is available for the 2011 council Philmont trek. The 2011 contingent fee is set at $925. This includes Philmont’s camp fee, transportation, lodging and training costs. Click here for the application form.
Backpacking treks at Philmont are physically, mentally and emotionally demanding. Adequate preparation is essential. Participants will be required to attend three mandatory training campouts and one pre-departure shakedown.
