(2) Walk north along Topeka Ave. to the Curtis House.

(3-6) Continue north to SW 10th St., then go east on 10th St. to reach the southwest corner of the Capitol grounds (3). Walk northeast on the sidewalk, passing the first statue (4), and up the steps to view the plaque (5) Go down the steps and southeast on that sidewalk, past the second statue (6), to the corner.

(7) Diagonally across the street is the Curtis State Office Building.

(8) Cross SW Jackson St. to reach the Memorial Building and its plaque.

(9) Go north on Jackson to the Crawford Building.

(10) Turn east up SW 5th St. to Kansas Ave. Go north on Kansas to SW 1st St. and the cornerstone.

(11) Take the Kansas Ave. bridge walkway north across the river. NOTE: From the middle of this bridge and the Topeka Ave. one, you can see most of the section of the Kansas River where Curtis’ Grandfather Louis Pappan and his brother operated their ferry in the early years of territory settlement. At the north end of the bridge, turn west on N Laurent and proceed to N. Kansas Ave. Go south on Kansas, across the train tracks (be careful), to the sidewalk heading west to the Great Overland Station.

(12) Return on the sidewalk to Kansas and head north to the church.

(13) Continue going north to NE Morse St. Turn west and follow the curve of Morse St. to NW Central St. Turn north again and go to NW Grant St. and the old Curtis Jr. High School.

(14) Go west on Grant to NW Topeka Ave. Cross Topeka and go north on NW Harrison St. At the end of the street is the north end of the Charles Curtis Memorial Greenway and his family’s cemetery.

(15) Retrace your path south on Harrison to NW Topeka Ave. Note the sign at the south end of the Greenway on Morse St.

(16) Head south on Topeka, crossing that bridge. Continue on S. Topeka Ave. to SW 8th St. Go one block east to SW Harrison and the statue.

(17) Continue south on Harrison to SW 9th St. Go west on 9th to Polk and Topeka High School. (Return) Proceed south on Polk to SW 11th St. Turn east and rediscover the Curtis House (2), approached from the rear. Head south on Topeka and return to the Expocentre and the trail head.
