A couple of nice thoughts to help everyone through the to the end of a long winter: Sooner or later spring will arrive, and with the green grass and flowers will come SAILING SEASON. The Shawnee Yacht Club members are really stepping up to make their youth sailing program feel at home. This program operates as a part of the Boy Scouts of America. It is known as the Joshua Slocum Sea Scout Ship 5703.
An initial membership meeting will be held Tuesday, April 13 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 202 (NJROTC room) at Shawnee Heights High School, although you do not need to be present to join. Many more details regarding planned activities, boats, schedules, membership requirements and fees are posted on the SYC website at http://members.cox.net/sycship/Pages/Intro.htm . Union Pacific prepares special locomotive for Boy Scouts |
Published: Monday, March 01, 2010
|
OMAHA, Neb. - Union Pacific is planning to paint an ES44AC diesel in a scheme dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America, sources at the railroad tell TRAINS. Early indications point to a special logo being applied to a locomotive with standard paint, rather than a totally different paint scheme.
The railroad plans to renumber the locomotive to UP 2010; the existing UP 2010, a GP60, will be renumbered to make room.
UP's paint shop at its Jenks Yard in Little Rock, Ark., will paint the new No. 2010.

BSA Youth Delegation Presents Report to the Nation for 2009 |
|
Since its incorporation in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America is mandated by its national charter to present an annual report of its accomplishments over the last year. A youth delegation is accompanied on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the seat of our national government to eat, play, sleep, and discuss Scouting among our nation's most precious treasures. The BSA is dedicated to ensuring that the news of these great Scouts' stories make it back to their local councils and other local BSA councils across the country. While in Washington this week to deliver the official report, the delegates expressed their desire that their experience help other kids become interested in being a Scout.
To that end, the 2009 Report to the Nation Web site, www.scouting.org/rtn is open for anyone to visit. You can meet the delegates, and even ask them questions. And you will see daily updates after the delegates have spent the day meeting dignitaries and learning about the history of the city. We'll be adding video clips of the delegates so you can get to know them better.

February Cub Scout Camping News Update |
|
Summer is almost here and plans are being finalized for our 2010 camping season. A lot of people are excited about the work they have been putting in to this summer's plans and we hope that you are just as excited. The theme this year is "100 Years of Scouting, Back to the Future" in a continued celebration of our 1OOth year of Scouting. We are offering many of the same activities that we have in the past, but we have added some new ones to take advantage of in this year of celebration. Scouts and leaders will have the opportunity to earn the "Outdoor" ribbon which is part of Scouting's 1OOth anniversary "A Year of Celebration" patch. We are also publishing a tabloid that will be arriving in your mailboxes. This tabloid will include valuable information about our camps and should prove very useful in planning for this summer. Hope to see you all at camp this summer.

Hall of Leadership Deadline Extended |
|
We have seen thousands of terrific stories about Scouting leadership submitted to the National Hall of Leadership nomination database, but we know there are many more great stories out there yet to be shared!
We know that everyone is busy ramping up for a busy 1OOth Anniversary year. So, we've extended the nomination deadline to April 2, 2010. Our goal is to get the broadest representation possible from our councils across the country, and we want to make sure you have enough time to encourage people in your council to submit their nominations.
Based on this new schedule, the final group of inductees - one from each local council and one from the national council - will be announced July 31 as part of the 1OOth Anniversary events at the National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. For more detailed information, see the revised judging timetable.
Submit your nomination today! Don't miss this one-time opportunity to recognize outstanding leadership by a Scout, registered Scout leader, or Scouting volunteer who made a significant difference in the life of another by the extraordinary service they have given ... and the Scouting virtues they have modeled.
Together, launching Scouting's next century of service!
