2017 Leave No Trace Master Educator
The Leave No Trace Master Educator Course is a vital component of the worldwide Leave No Trace program, and the BSA program. It is a week-long (commonly split into a two weekend) version of the Leave No Trace Trainer Course. Participants receive in-depth hands on training in Leave No Trace skills, and ethics in an outdoor-field environment. The Master Educator Course assists the student/participant in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace, and techniques for using these low impact skills in both the back country, and front country, as well as how to teach others to pass them on. It is an essential course for adult BSA leaders influencing outdoor activities to enable them to achieve the high standards of ethical behavior set forth by the scouting program. It is also a valuable asset for those serving in an educational role that involves the outdoors, and or many of the ever growing list of merit badges that have Leave No Trace listed as a requirement for. After all Outdoor Ethics is ranked second only to Safety/First Aid on the BSA’s priority list, placing it before advancement. As Outdoor Ethics is part of the foundation of the program. If we build the towers of advancement without the foundation they need, they will not be able to stand the test of life.
