Wilderness First Aid

Is Your Unit Prepared for High Adventure

Do you know what to do in an emergency out on the trail or at an activity? Our council offers several courses annually for you to gain the training and skills necessary to handle the challenges that come with accidents or illness.

Our classes use curriculum provided by the Emergency Care and Safety Institute. You will be certified for 2 years.

Wilderness First Aid is the assessment and treatment given to an ill or injured person in a remote environment where care by a physician or rapid transport isn't possible. During the 16-hour course, participants will learn how to assess, treat, and (when possible) contain emergencies.

Current certification in an adult CPR course and completion of AED training are prerequisites.
It is a requirement for all units to have two Wilderness First Aid trained leaders on any trips to BSA high adventure bases.
