2019 Philmont Lottery Information

Registration for summer crews begins in late October 18 months before a given summer. In November, the Lottery determines trek date assignments (learn more about the Philmont Lottery systemExternal Link). We strongly recommend that units register for the lottery to have the best chance of receiving their desired trek date, and to have adequate time to prepare for their trek.

Crews interested in a 12-day or 7-day trek slot should register for the Philmont LotteryExternal Link, which occurs in November a year and a half before the summer for which the lottery is drawn.

There are typically 40 slots each day for 12-day crews until mid-August. For most of the summer, there are 4 slots for 7-day crews arriving each Saturday and Sunday. However, there are 30 available slots for 7-day crews arriving August 10th - August 14th.

2018 Available Slots

Occasionally, there are vacant slots for upcoming summer treks (because crews drop out, etc.). These slots provide an opportunity for crews to register less than 18 months before their trek, understanding that they must operate on an accelerated schedule to fully prepare for their trek. Council Contingents

Philmont defines a Council Contingent as a "provisional expedition composed of Scouts, Venturers and Leaders." Ideally, contingents provide a "Philmont Experience" to individuals who would not otherwise be able to attend. A priority is given to those who have never attended Philmont. Scholarships are available to worthy youth in order to attend the council expedition. Council Contingents provide an important link to encourage units to plan high adventure experiences in future years by providing training for adults involved in the council expedition.
