Wheeler to Retire October 31

With mixed emotions, the Jayhawk Area Council  announces the retirement of Buzz Wheeler.  His last day in the Jayhawk Area Council will be October 31.  Buzz has served as the council's Program Director since November 2017.  Prior to this he worked for three other Boy Scout Councils in Nebraska, Michigan, and Illinois.

As Program Director, Buzz worked with all the council program committees covering council advancement, training, and outdoor programs.  He was staff advisor to Wood Badge, Order of the Arrow, NYLT, COPE/Climbing, Klondike and Shooting Sports among others.  he also served as Camp Director for our summer camp programs at Falley Scout Reservation.

Buzz had planned to retire from the Boy Scouts in St. Charles, Illinois October 2017 but his retirement party was changed into a promotion party as we were able to convince him to help us create the position of Council Program Director for the Jayhawk Area Council.  Now that he has set the template, he has decided to officially retire and spend more time with family.

In a short time, Buzz has made an impact on the Jayhawk Area Council.  We thank him for his service to us and to the Boy Scouts of America.

Buzz requested we do not hold a formal retirement party for him, but anyone who wants to wish him well is encouraged to reach out to him.
