TOPEKA, KS - The Jayhawk Area Council, Boy Scouts of America has received a $12,500 corporate grant from Westar Energy. The Boy Scouts will utilize this funding to enhance and expand their Career Readiness and Education to Vocation programming specifically focused on benefiting youth in at risk areas of Topeka. In addition, Westar will be recognized as a Gold Level sponsor of the Topeka’s Top 20 Under 40 event.

“We greatly appreciate the donation made by Westar as it will allow us to better serve the youth of our area as we prepare them for their futures,” says Wayne Pancoast, Executive Director. “The continuum of career readiness and workforce development programs is the way to help feed the local economy by aiding youth in identifying their passions at the High School Level. It will connect businesses/industries with students who will become their future workforce and provide them an opportunity to interact prior to post-secondary education. For students they will be better informed about their desired career field and understand what it takes to get there. For the businesses it will give them a direct connection to the youth interested and provide them a pool to pull from when opportunities arise.”

Westar’s donation will help fund three specific areas through the Learning for Programming: Exploring, Career Readiness and Elementary Learning for Life programs.
