Nine Topeka Area Scouts Earn Pope Pius XII Religious Emblem

A class of nine Scouts from Jayhawk Area Council and Heart of America Council recently completed the Pope Pius XII Religious Emblem Program developed by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting for Catholic Scouts of high-school age.

For successfully completing the vocation-based program, these Scouts received the Pope Pius XII Emblem from Archbishop Joseph Naumann at a special Awards Mass on April 7, 2019 in the Cathedral of St. Peter in Kansas City along with other award recipients from around the Archdiocese.

The class met from last September until this February and was composed of one Boy Scout from Troop 11 at Christ the King Parish, one Boy Scout from Troop 18 chartered to Tecumseh United Methodist, one Boy Scout from Troop 26 at Mater Dei Parish, three Boy Scouts from Troop 46 at Most Pure Heart of Mary, two female Venturing Scouts from Crew 249 chartered to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and Boy Scout from Troop 55 in Lawrence.  The class was led by Council volunteer John Spain. He is also the contact for those interested in the 2019-20 class starting in the fall. Congratulations Scouts!
