Summer Camp 2020 Update

To Our Jayhawk Area Council Scouting Community,

We truly appreciate your patience and allowing Jayhawk Area Council to thoroughly review every aspect of our summer camp operations over the last few months in order to adapt a safe and exciting summer camp for 2020.

Our council is pleased to let our Scouting Community know that our Summer Camp Operations Plan has been endorsed by Jefferson County Emergency Management and Health Department as of Friday, June 5th.The Executive Board, Program Task Force, and Council Staff put forth a great deal of effort while constructing a plan for the safety of all participants.

Most councils had the hard decision to either continue as planned or cancel their summer operations. The Jayhawk Area Council would like to acknowledge our Executive Board for their approval to operate camp while during the early stages of COVID-19 and gave us the time to conduct a thorough health and safety response plan.

Some major highlights that occurred during this process is that Jefferson County Emergency Management will be providing:

  • KN95 Face mask for all Scouts, Leaders, and Staff
  • N95 Face Mask for our Medical Staff
  • Cloth Face Mask for all Participants
  •  10 Portable Hand-washing stations (this will allow one in every program area)
  • Cases of gel hand sanitizers
  • Cleaning solution to disinfect bathrooms and shower houses

In addition to the PPE and cleaning supplies from Jefferson County, the United Way of Greater Topeka which serves Jefferson County, has granted the Jayhawk Area Council funds to offset some of the extra expenses that will be incurred this summer due to COVID-19.

"Camp Safety Plan" is the FULL document with all the details.
