Staff Application Staff Invitation

NYLT is a great course that teaches skills that will be taught often to young scouts throughout their life. Not only is it fantastic training for a job but it will greatly help each unit run. As we get Scouting back to normal, it is crucial to keep the leadership in the hands of the youth. There is no better way to help the youth than to send them through NYLT. Baden Powell said that “a week of training is worth six months in the theoretical meeting room.” Why sit through the classes at school when you can learn the same material, in a more effective way while having fun singing songs and camping with the Scouts? We can’t wait to work with everyone and train the next generation of leadership. Remember, “If you can see it, you can be it!”

What is NYLT

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is the premier youth leadership training course for Scouts BSA and Venture youth leaders.  It provides the skills that youth leaders need to be successful in their Scouting roles and in life. Through the Scouting method, skills such as communicating, developing a team, applying leadership, and much more are learned and applied!

The National Youth Leadership Training course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DOThe key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.

The course will be held May 29th - June 3rd 2022 at Falley Scout Reservation.

Requirements to Attend:
  • Scouts BSA - Must be at least 13 years old and first class and complete Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops.
  • Venturers - Must be 13 or 14 and have completed the 8th grade and complete Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crew. It is recommended that Venturers have had at least one year of camping experience.

NYLT is a six-day course. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol team outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of mnemonics (memory aids), which allows participants to understand and employ the leadership skills much faster.

The registration fee is $220. The registration deadline is May 10th, 2022. The fee includes training materials, food, and recognition items. In addition, you will need to provide personal camping gear and uniforms. Details will be available online and emailed prior to course opening.

Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the course reaches capacity.
