2020 Klondike Unit Registration is Now Open!

Mush you doggies – mush! Are you ready for an extreme adventure?

The 2020 Klondike Derby is closer than you think! The Klondike is an outdoor event held in cold-weather and sometimes snow that brings together hundreds of Scouts and volunteers.

For the first time, the Prairie Band Potawatomi Indian Reservation is allowing an outside group to use their Prairie Peoples Park site.  This great location provides camping and competition areas as well as areas for check-in and headquarters.  We appreciate the opportunity to partner with this great resource in our community.

Scout teams acting as huskies pull specially designed homemade sleds around a field course marked by stations called towns. As you arrive at each town, you will encounter a practical problem involving basic Scouting skills. Depending on how well your team works out this problem and is prepared by having the right stuff on the sled, your team is scored by the "Mayor" of the town.

The Klondike Derby offers 3 courses for Scouts: The Webelos Course or beginner’s course is designed for Cub Scouts (ages 9-11) new to the Klondike. The Scouts BSA Course (ages 12-14) has more challenging problems, such as crossing a ravine with their sled and building a fire to burn a string of rope. The Extreme course (for ages 14-18) offers exciting challenges like shooting rifles and shotguns.

Registration is now open* and the "must have" Klondike hat is available for pre-registration.  Costs are the same as last year.  The program guide will be posted soon but do not delay in registering for the great event and check out this first-time location.  Deadline for Early Bird and Hat Order is December 24.

Grease up your sled and come on out to the 2020 Klondike. You will not be disappointed!

*This registration is open for units to register their Scouts to attend. It is NOT for staff. A link for those participating on the Klondike staff will be sent to you by the Klondike Czar or Governors.
